What it is

  • A collection of 84 DESIGN.md files, by VoltAgent. Each describes a real brand's website so an AI agent can build in that style.
  • Licence: MIT, copyright 2026 VoltAgent. The repo says it doesn't own any brand's visual identity.
  • Version: the 74 files with tokens up top are all marked version: alpha. No release version is stated.
  • Packaging: plain markdown. One folder per brand under design-md/, each with a DESIGN.md and a README.md. Nothing to install or run.
  • The repo credits the DESIGN.md idea to Google Stitch.
  • The tokens are taken from public websites. They are CSS values anyone can see.

How to get it

  • The repo is github.com/voltagent/awesome-design-md.
  • Copy a brand's DESIGN.md into your project root and tell your agent to use it.
  • Ask for new brands, including private ones, through getdesign.md.
  • To contribute, open an issue first. Pull requests with new DESIGN.md files aren't accepted.

Cautions

  • Two formats. Only 10 files use the nine-section layout the README describes. The other 74 use YAML tokens plus eight written sections.
  • The README says each brand has preview.html and preview-dark.html. The copy we read has none.
  • 20 files call themselves "an inspired interpretation". Some misspell the brand: Stripi, Supabaze, Shopifi.
  • README one-liners contradict the files. The README calls Cursor dark; its file says warm cream. It calls ElevenLabs dark; its file rules that out. It gives Runway black pill buttons; Runway's file bans pills.
  • A file can contradict itself. Notion's lists a purple pill button and also says its buttons are not pills. Trust the tokens and the Do's and Don'ts over the Overview.
  • The README lists 83 brands; there are 84 folders (Slack has no entry). Airbnb's file has no Do's and Don'ts.
  • Each folder's README.md only points to getdesign.md.
  • 34 files say to run a Google lint command. Nobody here has run it.
  • "Known Gaps" sections list what the copying missed, such as animation and hover.
  • The patterns across brands (one accent, cream pages, pill buttons and so on) are the distiller's reading. No file states them as rules. Each brand named in this toolbox was checked against its own file; brands that didn't hold up were dropped.

Cards it supplies

  • Tool: borrow from a brand (awesome-design-md).
  • Tool: DESIGN.md, the look written down (shared with impeccable).
