Filmed and posted my first ever selfie video yesterday aimed at TikTok. Three reflections from someone who has never done this before.

Filmed and posted my first ever selfie video yesterday aimed at TikTok. Three reflections from someone who has never done this before.

  1. It was much harder than I thought it would be. I knew it'd be hard, but I didn't realise it would be take-after-take hard.
  2. I'm not used to looking at myself. And I'm definitely not used to speaking and memorising while looking at myself. My eyes naturally wander when I'm searching for the right phrasing, and the camera doesn't allow that. Finding the balance between memorising and just talking, while staring at my own face, was hard.
  3. Letting AI generate the content didn't work for me. What worked was talking through my own idea first, then sitting with AI to revise it.

The video came in at 2:36. I only realised late that 60-90 seconds is the right target for the platform.

Rather than wait another day to re-record, I shipped it. Better to learn from a longer than ideal video that's out there than a perfect one that isn't.

First take: 3-4 hours end-to-end.

Goal: get it down to 1 hour including editing. Two videos a day for 50 days. Day 1.
